Research: Good Examples of the Student Creed

Rosa Parks

“Why should I have to get up and stand? Why should we have to be pushed around”? Is what Mrs. Rosa Parks first said on that day she walked into history. “I wanted to be treated like a human being”. Rosa Parks is a great example of our student creed. She understands that choices have results and she is responsible for her actions. She over came adversities and challenges, also practiced good citizenship. And because of that is an inspiration for many.

Parks was born on February fourth 1913 in Tuskegee Alabama, 45 miles east of Montgomery. She grew up in the times of segregation, when blacks were slave free, but weren’t treated equal she was the first child of James and Leona McCauley.

She is a great example of, “choices have results and you’re responsible for your actions”. On that December day Parks made the choice not to give up and fight against segregation. Because of the she got sent to jail, she was the first person to get arrested for that “crime” but as she was waiting for her appeal another court was taking place the Browder vs. Gayle case on June 4th, 1956. It was decided that segregation was unconstitutional.

Parks practiced good citizenship by once being the secretary of the president of the NASCP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). She was a part of a 381 day Montgomery boycott, where all black people didn’t ride the busses. She is well known as the “mother of civil right movement”. She knew someone had to take the first step, but wasn’t the first to do it. She’s always been timid but that December 1st 1955 she built up a lot of courage.

She knows that she can over come adversities and challenges. Parks made a big change not only for blacks but for women too. She knew someone had to stand up against racial segregation. After the boycott and everything she was harassed and threatened. There was a personal consequence that happened to Parks and family like being threatened in the street by a white man and always reviving menacing calls. Her husband began to sleep with a gun. Rosa and family luckily got relocated to Detroit Michigan. But because of what she did the best result that came out of everything is she made a change a helped stop segregation.

Rosa Parks is an inspiration to me because she follows the creed by over coming challenges and adversities, practiced good citizenship, and understood her choices had results and is responsible for her actions. “We still have a long way to go in improving the race relation in this country”. I’m sure she is right , but we could take everyting one step at a time.
