Growing Old

My thoughts on growing are just that we grow with the years. We learn new things and we teach them to others. We experience things that couldn’t be experienced before, when we were younger. Most people think it’s a bad thing to grow old, but I think that they are just afraid of what they don’t know will happen. Most people associate being old with dying or getting “ugly”, but I associate it with knowledge and experience. I will accept my age no matter what.

I think that some of my grandparents are over 65. Some of them do good and some of them do bad. The ones that are doing good have their own house and business and one of them actually has Parkinson’s disease but he stays happy in his life. My other grandparents seem to be depressed and unhappy with their lives. They also don’t want to accept getting old.

I try to accept them just as family, but it’s hard sometimes because I don’t have a good relationship with my grandparents because I really only see the ones who are depressed. It’s also been hard because I have been away for almost eighteen months now. I hope to have a good relationship with them.

I really like your view on growing old. I have always been a little bit afraid of growing old because it sounds like kind of a hassle to me. It almost seemed like there is nothing to live for once you hit a certain age. You gave me a whole new perspective on it. Knowledge and wisdom are definitely things that also come with old age. I can't wait to become old and look back on my life at all the things I have learned. This entry was really cool because you looked at growing old in a totally different way than most people usually do.

You developed your ideas very well. You should explain more the differneces between your two sets of grandparents. You should explain why you only get to see the grandparents that are depressed and not your other set of grandparents as well. That might help give your readers some more backgroung information. I liked the ideas at the beginning of your story, and how you connected those thoughts with your grandparents. Overall, I thought this story was very well developed.

Penelope,
You are wise beyond your years, much more so than alot of old people. I am an old people so this is how I know this.
If you try and follow the examples of your grandparents that do good you will be able to acheive anything you set your mind too!
They are your family and sometimes that just makes it hard, I am sure that they miss you and want to have a good relationship with you as well. For the most part good things take time. Best of luck to you in your life and with your family. P.S. getting old isn't really that bad...LOL
